Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is the Onfloor 20™ used for Floor Preparation or Polishing?
Onfloor 20™ is designed to handle both concrete floor preparation and concrete floor polishing. Depending on the tools used, the Onfloor 20™ can either leave the floor with a rough profile for epoxy coatings or can polish the floor to a mirror shine.
2. . Is the Onfloor 20™ intended to be used as a wet machine or a dry machine?
The Onfloor 20™ can be used in either wet or dry configurations. Wet grinding/polishing has been used in Europe for many years and is becoming more popular in the United States. Its biggest advantage is the lack of airborne particulate matter generated from grinding. Dry polishing is still the method of choice for most American concrete polishing contractors and has the advantage of a completely dry surface and easier cleanup and disposal of concrete dust.
3. What is a planetary machine?
The Onfloor 20™ is a planetary grinder which means that the abrasive tools rotate in an opposite motion to the direction of the main drive axle. Since the abrasive tools and drive motor turn in opposite directions, the machine does not have a tendency to pull to one side or the other. The Onfloor 20™ is also a belt-driven “frictional” planetary grinder which means that the machine is easier to handle and less prone to user error.
4. What type of tooling can I use on the Onfloor 20™ ?
The Onfloor 20™ is compatible with a wide array of diamond and carbide infused abrasive tooling for use in concrete grinding and polishing applications. These tools are designed in a variety of grit sizes ranging from an aggressive metal-bond 6 grit diamond tool all the way to a phenolic resin-bond 3000 grit polishing pad. These abrasive tools are formulated with various bond strengths and are available in formulations designed for wet grinding or dry grinding.
5. How powerful is the Onfloor 20™ ?
The Onfloor 20™ comes in several different power plant configurations. It is available with a single phase 220v 3hp.motor, a three-phase 220v 5hp motor or a three-phase 480v 5hp motor. All configurations include the industry-leading Baldor™ motors and come with a 1-year warranty.
6. Can I add additional weight to the Onfloor 20™?
For jobs that require additional weight, Onfloor™ has provided a weight that can be added to the machine. The weight fits over the three posts on the top of the machine bowl. In the unlikely event that even more weight is needed, a second weight - available through your Onfloor™ dealer - fits over the first. No more than three weights should ever be used with the Onfloor 20™.
